Jannis Kounellis's work is respect for the material, even if it is "poor" compared to traditional marble or bronze. His will is to give meaning to the objects that surround us in everyday life and are full of history. He claims, however, the historical aspect of a work and ideological: by staging objects, it brings out the imprint of the past on the present. It does not fit into the thought of "art for art's sake" but wants to bring out issues of historical, symbolic, psychological and anthropological.
