Cracov - the old royal capital of Poland - is a city of the Malopolska (old Polonia Minor or Little Poland) region situated on the River Vistula. It was also on an ancient trading route that led from Western Europe to Ruthenia and (at least at the time of the earliest written histories from the 10th and 11th centuries) on to the land of the Khazars by the Caspian Sea.
