Description:

This is the fourth title in the “French Wings” series, describing the history of the LeO 45 from initial specifications to retirement after WWII. The Leo 45 was a modern (by 1940 standards) bomber in the Armée de l’Air (French Air Force), probably the best known of such aircraft. Used during the Phoney War but more importantly employed to try to stop the German onslaught during the Bataille de France. After French armistice, the Vichy Air Force built some planes, most of them captured during invasion of ‘Free Zone’ in November 1942. The Germans used this plane in the transport role, as well as French troops in North Africa when they fought alongside the Allies after Operation Torch. Specifications, construction and operations of these aircraft are described in detail, illustrated with many previously unpublished photos. Color schemes and markings are described and illustrated (Armée de l’Air, Vichy Air Force, Luftwaffe, Armée de l’Air after Torch).
