Neoclassicism in Poland (History of art in Poland)
Description:
The period of neoclassicism, which was contained approximately between 1760 and 1830, was of great significance for Polish culture. In Polish history this was a completely exceptional period when the fate of Poland was being decided; a period of patriotic reforms and political catastrophes, occupations and ephemeral attempts to call into being state organizations with smaller territory. It was in that period that the notion of national art was clearly defined and artistic education formed, and it was on the traditions of the Age of Enlightenment and neoclassicism, and later the romanticist art of the early decades of the 19th century, that the development of Polish art in the hardest years under the partitions was based.
