Boken'o Yokoo Tadanori: Tadanori Yokoo be Adventurous!
Description:
From the 1960s to the present, Yokoo Tadanori (1936 - ) has created many colorful works in the two fields of graphic design and oil painting. The title "Adventure King" is more appropriate to Yokoo than any other artist. This book chronicles his exhibition and fully conveys the appeal of Yokoo, the "Adventure King", through new paintings based on mystery writer Edogawa Ranpo's Boys' Detective Gang series and Jules Verne's adventure novels as well as original art for underground theater posters made in the 1960s and 1970s and original art for illustrations published in Heibon Punch and other magazines (many shown for the first time. Though focusing on Yokoo's work after the legendary graphic designer's sudden switch to painting in 1982, this show also features plenty of the original art for his earlier posters and illustrations. Dramatic shifts in style notwithstanding, his current works share much in common with those from the sixties. Above all, this retrospective testifies to the prodigiousness of Yokoo's output.
