Description:
This work explores Plato’s theory of anamnesis as given in the Meno, Phaedo, and Phaedrus. To this end an exegesis of the appropriate sections of each of these dialogues is given. After which two differing interpretations of the theory of anamnesis as given by Norman Gulley in Plato’s Theory of Recollection and Dominic Scott in Platonic Anamnesis Revisited are explicated. Lastly Gulley’s interpretation is supported over Scott’s using evidence from the aforementioned exegeses.
