Planning, designing and realising buildings for new research assignments has been one fo the undertakings of the Max Planck Society for decades. This volume explores current solutions by presenting more than 30 new buildings and projects. Construction projects include laboratories such as the synchrotron radiation source Bessy II in Berlin, international conference centres and the conversion of historic buildings such as the Biblioteca Hertziana in Rome by Juan Navarro Baldeweg. The buildings are commissioned by the Construction department of the Society and realised by many international architects including Heikkinen & Komonen, Henning Larsen, Brenner & Partner.
