Description:

Klaus ScherübelVOL. 13 First monograph on the work of Austrian/Canadian post-conceptual artist Klaus Scherübel following a series of exhibitions held in Europe and North America between 2008 and 2011. Scherübel's multidisciplinary practice involves a systematic investigation of artistic activity and the role of the artist. Interested in issues of originality and authorship many of his realizations draw attention to a history of ideas that reaches back to the classical avant-gardes and early modernism. Blurring the borders between artistic and curatorial responsibilities his undertakings further the revaluation of works, concepts and entire genres issuing from the visual arts, literature and cinema. The publication focuses on some of his most important projects of the last decade, including his photo/text-based series "Untitled (The Artist at Work)" and his long-term projects dedicated to the literary enterprises of French poet Stéphane Mallarmé and fictional writer Jack Torrance, known from Stanley Kubrick's modern horror drama The Shining. Scherübel has personally taken charge of the conception of this book-in the process giving us a publication that is both about his self-reflexive artistic approach and an extension of it.Text contributions by: Jean-François Chevrier, Helmut Draxler, Patrice Loubier, Klaus Scherübel Montreal 2011, 194 pages, 50 mainly full-page color ill., 24 x 16 cm, Softcover, thread-stitching, texts trilingual (French/English/German), ISBN 978-2-9805703-4-6 Publisher: Fonderie Darling, Montreal, in collaboration with S.M.A.K.
