Philippe de Mézières was a man of adventure, fighting wars in Italy, France and against the Turks. After his pilgrimage to the Holy Land, he was a chancellor in Cyprus before settling in Venice. He later counseled Charles V of France and served as tutor for the future Charles VI before retiring to the Celestine convent in Paris. Philippe de Mézières received a revelation that would guide his life while praying at the Holy Sepulcher: a new chivalric order, the Passion of Jesus Christ, dedicated to liberating the Holy Land.
