What’s yours?“It’s only by watering your own seed of happiness that you become a sunflower.” IndraAbout Indra SinghFrom a young age, author Indra Singh always knew she was different; no matter where she was or what she was doing, she couldn’t seem to fit in.A solitary child who experienced her share of bullying, she always felt different from everyone else. Her culture and home life were different from her peers, and she also felt she stood out from everyone because she felt different inside. Indra felt sad and melancholy, wishing for a faerie godmother to come and save her.A dance class regular, from Ballet and Tap to Modern Dance, Indra knew she would always dance. Tap, however, gave her the outlet she was craving, as she could truly express how she felt; it gave her an excuse to stamp her feet.It wasn’t until her late teens that her healing journey began. An eating disorder developed in her early teens, and for Indra, it was one of the greatest lessons of her life. She embraced yoga in her late teens, and a few years later, became a yoga teacher, travelling the world – the U.S., Brazil, Peru and India – but all the while, still looking for her faerie godmother. After the birth of her first daughter, Maya, that she realised her faerie godmother was, in fact, herself – that everything she needed was inside of her – and it was up to her to grab that creative power and put it to work.A teacher of yoga for the past 25 years, Indra has helped children, addicts and people suffering with mental health issues, a practice she continues to regularly offer.Writing has always been a passion for Indra, ever since she won a poetry competition while in junior school. She has since expanded her repertoire to include articles for yoga magazines and international health and wellness publications. My Best Friend’s a SuperHero is Indra’s first book of many. When she’s not teaching yoga or writing about her experiences, Indra loves to spend time with her two girls, and can often be found out in nature, swimming, walking, planting seeds, and making space for bees, butterflies and insects. She also loves to sing and dance, whenever the mood strikes. Her creative expression has also opened up to include learning to knit and teaching herself the guitar.Finding self-love and embracing those activities I love is all I ever needed to do, she explains. For information about Indra, her journey and her book, My Best Friend’s a SuperHero, please visit www.indrasingh.com.
