The Story Of Piggy The Frog

Alan Solomon's Piggy the Frog is a fast-moving, fantastical epic poem for children and adults alike. Stylistically it is a blend of Edward Lear's 'nonsense verse,' Lewis Caroll's "Alice in Wonderland" and Hermann Hesse's "Journey to the East." It is a magical adventure story about four mythical creatures who go on a whimsical journey to the coast and encounter an interesting array of characters and situations along the way.Piggy the Frog is an "amphibious dog" whose character is a combination of Winnie the Pooh and Snoopy, plus something else that is not quite definable. Sticky the Twig is a porcupine who wears a wig that changes color with the seasons. Pete the Gnome is a little pixie who wears pointy shoes, and Pillow the Willow - the true hero in the story - is a tree that uprooted to travel.The happy quartet set off on a journey that takes them to a village reminiscent of the South Sea Islands where they meet the preposterously boisterous Chief Joe. They then continue and encounter a cruel "wheel-barrow man" before finding themselves in a grim, totalitarian city where they are arrested and forced to stand trial. Along the way they have tea with a delightfully charminglittle girl, pass through an enchanted forest where Piggy, Sticky and Pete learn a valuable lesson about the power of their thoughts, before eventually arriving at their destination. At "surface-level" the poem is a rhyming children's story full of frolicking fun and humor.At a much deeper level, it is a soul's journey from childhood innocence to ultimate spiritual enlightenment.
