Born into a poor farming family in the Midwest, Bert learned at a very young age the value of hard-work and accepting challenges. He joined the USMC in 1958 and after being honorably discharged in 1962 he applied for and was accepted by the Los Angeles Police Department. During his tenure on LAPD he was assigned to a variety of duties. A few of those experiences and assignments are the subject of this book. After seven years as the Senior Sergeant in SWAT, Bert retired in 1985 and was an independent contractor to the US government, Traveling to 24 Countries over 20 Years as a security consultant. He is now retired and lives in Arizona.
