"A poetic essay celebrating the bar and beer community in Eugene, Oregon when there was still a utopian quality to the scene. Inspired by a conversation with Barbara Henning during her visit to Eugene to read in A New Reading Series, which I founded and hosted, the initial plan was to write a prose piece about Eugene as a hippy town whose elder statesmen and women were beginning to perish, but it morphed into a kind of diary of my time at my favorite bar/pub in Eugene called The Bier Stein and a celebration above all of the art of conversation and the notion of the bar, pub, tavern, saloon as one of the few public squares we have left in this country"--
