The legendary Knute Rockne (Notre Dame) and Curly Lambeau (founder of the Packers) are his coaches. Together they help mold Tom's goal in life: to one day, himself, become head coach of the Green Bay Packers.
After a decade of losing, the Packers are fed up. The organization desperately needs a coach who can return the team to the glory years of the Lambeau Era. Thus the Packers turn to "one of their own" for the 1958 season: former top assistant Tom Hearden.
But when tragedy intervenes at the final hour, it leads to the team’s hiring of an untested new coach named Vince Lombardi.
