When to Bid Notrump (And How to Play It)
Description:
This is a really good bridge book. It is actually 2 books in 1. The first 75 pages discuss when you should bid notrump. It discusses in detail when you need a stopper to bid notrump and when you don't. It also discusses topics such as opening 1NT with a 5 card major, jumping to 3NT, showing vs. asking cuebids, when to choose notrump over a major suit fit, and when the opener should rebid 1NT instead of showing a 4 card Spade suit. The 2nd half of the book is 175 pages and discusses how to play notrump. The author covers basic notrump strategies including counting winners, counting losers, the hold-up play, the safe hand, and entries. He describes a simple technique of counting your sure tricks and then determining potential additional tricks and breaks them down into guaranteed tricks and possible tricks. There are also several 1NT hands included in the book which is helpful since bridge players often struggle when playing 1NT. (Amazon customer)
