What intrigued me the most was the tying together of Scripture. What is found on the last few pages of the Bible required the beginning of the Bible to reveal and understand. As the Lord began to lead me through the study of each gate, thirteen necessary principles of the Christian life were seen. These principles cannot be produced in ourselves naturally or through our own ability. They are the outworking of the Christ-life in a vessel surrendered to the Lord. No amount of works can produce these principles, it is only by His grace can they be reproduced in us; for they are all seen in the Lord Jesus Christ. Though we speak of thirteen gates that represent thirteen principles, we are not implying that there are multiple ways into Heaven. We know that there is only one way, one Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. The purpose of this writing is that Christ might be made more real to the reader and that more of His light, love, and life would be poured through ours. The writing is simple, but so is the Gospel. Truth is not complex. Things become complex when we muddy the waters adding things that should not be there or meandering around hidden motives and sin. The chapters of this book are purposely laid out in a specific order. The order is that found in the forty-eighth chapter of the book of Ezekiel. Both Ezekiel and John had a revelation of the great city New Jerusalem, and both give details concerning it. There are twelve gates in the walls of the New Jerusalem. The gate of Joseph is considered here as two principles seen in his life experience and the naming of his sons Ephraim and Manasseh. It is my prayer that through this book your walk with the Lord will become closer than before and that your life will be blessed.
