La Villa Nueva de Santa Cruz de la Cañada de los Mexicanos Espanoles del Rey Nuestro Senor Don Carlos Segundo was established in April of 1695 by Governor and Captain General of New Mexico, Don Diego de Vargas. This second volume in the series of Santa Cruz Baptisms includes baptisms from 1795 to 1827. Most of the baptismal records include the name of the child being baptized, the baptismal date, the date of birth or age at baptism, names of parents and of godparents. Some entries include place of residence and race. The book includes a list of abbreviations and phrases used in the publication, as well as three name indexes. Indexes are 1) by name of person baptized, 2) by parents' names, and 3) by godparents, grandparents, and others named. All proceeds from books produced and sold by the New Mexico Genealogical Society help the society preserve the rich history of New Mexico and New Mexico ancestors.
