Nothing in Sylvia Browning’s childhood suggested that she would ever move outside her comfort zone. She grew up living close to nature in a small town in eastern Arizona. Her physician father and nurse mother were loving and fun. At the age of twenty-one, she came to faith in Christ. After marrying and raising two children, by an unexpected turn of events she came face to face with a world of human beings she labeled ‘throw-away’ people. For the next twenty-five years, she worked to improve the lives of released offenders (prison inmates). She gave them her real name when she was cautioned to use an alias . . . gave them her home address when she was advised prison mail should be delivered to a post office box. And, she picked up many at prison gates taking them into her home.
