Thissen Tales and Other Stories

I have been coming to Neligh since I was a babe in arms in 1927. I visited my grandparents there and when my parents inherited the house at 201Main Street, I brought my family there to visit their grandparents.When the opportunity came to use my grandparents’ home for a Bed and Breakfast, it seemed a good way to honor my Grandparents, the Thissens.As I encountered friends in my sojourn there, it became apparent I could write a little column for the Neligh News and Leader about persons who had known my grandparents, Harry and Lizzie Thissen and also my parents, Dan and Katie Schmidt. So, Thissen Tales was born, and for nearly twenty years it appeared in the paper.My dream to have this collection all in one cover has been realized. There are many friends who were a part of my journey who are subjects inthese articles, not to mention all the other friends who made my part-time life there so meaningful.
