Based on John Josselyn's 1646 record of an English woman who was found guilty of allowing an Indian man to have carnal knowledge of her and was sentenced to wear an armband with the outline of an Indian on it, Dragonfly, Walking Stick explores the complex relationships among and between Algonquin Indians and English Colonists.Dragonfly, Walking Stick examines the difficult and inspiring introduction of Algonquin Indian tribes to the English Colonists. Weaving the spiritual worlds of Native Americans and English Christians, the novel celebrates the creation of fertile hybridity as it confronts the difficulty of such rich mixtures finding acceptance in the seventeenth-century Colonial world.
