Description:

About the Author\nGrant Collier has been working as a photographer and writer since 1996 and is the author of 16 books. Grant spent many months photographing throughout Arizona to capture the images for this book. He also traveled to Costa Rica to photograph a tropical jungle similar to the one that once existed in Arizona. If he couldn’t get the image he needed, Grant used a tablet to draw parts of the landscape, including clouds and light beams. Grant carefully blended Stephanie’s artwork into his images. He adjusted the lighting and shadows on the people and animals to match the lighting in the photographs.\nStephanie Lowman has been sketching and painting for over thirty years. Bringing to life past and present scenes from Arizona was one of her most challenging tasks. Stephanie studied fossils of prehistoric creatures and compared them to fossils of living animals to learn how they might have looked. She then spent countless hours drawing all of the animals and people line-by-line. Stephanie currently lives in Arvada, Colorado, with her children, Osiris the Dog and Cassidy the Cat. She is the illustrator of all of the "Dreaming of..." series of books.\nView all of the books in the "Dreaming of..." series in the "From the Publisher" section above: Dreaming of Space Dreaming of Colorado Dreaming of Rocky Mountain National Park Dreaming of Arches National Park Dreaming of California\nDreaming of Arizona tells the story of Harlow the Hawk, who does not want to go to sleep. But when she does doze off, she dreams that she can travel back in time. Harlow goes on exciting journeys and sees Native Americans, mastodons, giant sloths, and an Arizonasaurus. Each of Harlow’s adventures is based on real events that occurred in Arizona.\nThis book combines vivid illustrations drawn by Stephanie Lowman with dramatic photos taken by Grant Collier. The resulting scenes are a mix of realism and fantasy that will keep kids fascinated while learning all about Arizona.\nThe text is best suited for children ages 5+.
