No Hands,no Feet, No Problem ?
Description:
"No Hands, No Feet, No Problem" is a book that everyone should read. It is a book that gives you a better understanding of the trials that physically challenged people face everyday. This book makes you appreciate your own health and is an inspiration to anyone facing any kind of uphill battle, which we all do. I have watched how hard Don works to cover the Hawkeyes and I appreciate his efforts and kind words but more importantly his ability to do his job with no excuses." Lisa Bluder Head Women's Basketball Coach The University of Iowa I met Don in December of 2003 and, although I work with a broad spectrum of patients with differing abilities, he took me by surprise. He began seeing me for chronic neck pain and headaches. As he rattled off his list of daily work and home activities, exercise regimen and hobbies, I found myself pausing in writing because I was trying to picture how he accomplished many of them. There is really nothing that he doesn't do. Because of his long torso, his prosthetics, and the vi compensations he has to make with his arms, his back and neck pay the price. He has responded beautifully to therapy and he has been diligent with his home exercise program of stretching, strengthening, and swimming, as well as postural and work space modifications. No one likes to stop several times a day to stretch or do an array of exercises, but Don does them and because of this, we rarely see each other any more. Don has a rather rare trait in that he holds himself accountable for his health, his achievements, and his life. He takes responsibility for the things that he must do and he just does them; no excuses and no complaints. There are many with more that do less. Jami Hartwig Physical Therapist
