The Evolution of Mobile Teaching and Learning
Description:
The information era in which we currently live is changing the culture of education. The use of information technologies has resulted in new opportunities that are rapidly growing to include mobile learning, an evolution of distance learning characterized as a paradigm shift from d-learning (distance) to e-learning (electronic) to m-learning (mobile). Definitions and conceptualizations that define this form of education in terms of technologies and learner experiences can be described as a learning environment inclusive of course content and materials, student support services, Internet, and communication. Mobile, wireless, and hand-held technologies are being used to reenact approaches and solutions to teaching and learning used in traditional and web-based formats. This book encompasses three distinctive divisions which include: (1) detailed definitions of mobile learning while providing an analytical and theoretical background of distance education; (2) results of pilots, projects and trials relevant to the use of mobile teaching and learning; and (3) the assessment and future of mobile education. It is my intent that this book will engage university and college educators, secondary school administrators and teachers, pre-service teacher education candidates, and corporate trainers interested in instructional design using technology. The book will take the reader through technologies available while “on the move” and will serve as a resource for designing and developing the mobile environment for education.
