The Exeter-Squamscott: River of Many Uses

The Exeter-Squamscott River has shaped the landscape and economy of many New Hampshire communities for centuries. Olive Tardiff traces the river's role in the lives of the plants, animals, and people lucky enough to live within its watershed.Originally written in 1986, the text has been revised and reprintedwith additional photographs and commentary under the guidance and sponsorship of the Exeter River Local Advisory Committee.Spurred on by a charge from the Rockingham Land Trust in 1985, the Exeter River Local Advisory Committee was established in 1996 tooversee the development and implementation of a river management plan.Committee members, drawn from residents of watershed towns, completed a watershed management plan in 1999 and since that time has designed many public education and outreach programs to increase awareness of the natural resources in the area.
