Spurred on by bipolar disease and hallucinogens, Jim Durkee uses prose and poetry to describe his forty year personal journey of desperation and triumph, confusion and clarity, and the eventual realization of some degree of serenity and peace. His writing encompasses his experience with LSD and struggle with bipolar disease, creating a philosophy evolving from the depths of hell and the pleasure of nirvana. An excerpt from the author's preface more clearly describes the contents of this book: "Within these pages, I have been honest, both with myself and my visions of the social condition, pointing out my criticisms and admirations of America, and I have offered valid solutions stemming from my visions of the future. The insights herein are not very complimentary in some instances, and the solutions offered neither easy nor quick. I hope the reader will bear in mind life is not easy or quick, that evolution-of ideas or social systems-is always a deliberate, measured, ongoing process, and lasting social infrastructures are created only by thoughtful consideration and hard work. I lay this work before the reader with the understanding that messages are sometimes not very pleasant, but in the long run, denial is far more unpleasant."
