A Star for Benny Peeples

Benny is a Crow Indian. He becmes a Marine and a POW. Benny leaves the peaceful mountains of New Mexico and finds himself in the brutal jungle battles of WWII in the South Pacific. As a POW he must evoke his mother's teachings, his Crow heritage and the language of his Japanese neighbor, in his sruggle to survive. He returns home a hero. The battles are over but the scars remain. "I will always carry them in my head," he says. "It's over but it's not done."
