The Anonymous Man
Description:
Jerry had always wanted to publish his own superhero comics, especially about his hero, The Anonymous Man, but instead had found himself stuck in a dead-end job as a computer software rep. Then, one day, he, his wife, Holly, and best friend, Jeff Flaherty, conspire to fake his death to collect on his $4 million life insurance policy. Once they actually pulls it off, Jerry goes into hiding as a dead man without an identity - that is, an anonymous man. But he soon learns that his wife and best friend are having an affair and plan to kill him.
Angry to have learned that his wife, Holly, and best friend, Jeff Flaherty, have planned to murder him faking his death to collect Jerry's $4 million life insurance policy, Jerry implements a plan to frame them for his faked death. After their arrest for his murder, Jerry attends their trial but finds that he still has feelings for Holly and comes up with another plan to save her from years in jail for a crime she didn't commit - by making her become anonymous.
Jerry takes Holly down to Florida near Disney World where he is living with Jade, a beautiful escort he'd met shortly after hiding out after faking his death. Jerry hides Holly at a cheap motel and while trying to figure out a way to help her, while keeping Jade happy, Holly betrays Jerry again by telling Jeff where she's hiding out. When Jeff ambushes Jerry in her motel room and tries to strangle him to death, Jade comes to the rescue and saves Jerry's life while leaving Holly and Jeff in the motel room to be captured by the local police for violating their bail.
- The Anonymous Man gets decent marks for creativity and intricacy...it's a fast read that runs through familiar local settings to a satisfying conclusion...Scarsella has the makings of a good storyteller...he and [Jack] Fox could go places. - The Buffalo News
- ★★★★★ Writer Vincent Scarsella is a tricky guy. If he disappears one day nobody will ever find him. I know this, how? The Anonymous Man is a handy guide to absconding with a ton of loot and rebooting your present mundane existence. Couple things, though. Don't attend your own funeral. And make sure you really, really trust your wife and best friend. - Rusty Clark
- ★★★★★ The book starts with Jerry observing his own funeral and then goes back to tell the preceding events. What follows twists and turns with an investigator hot on their heels - I don't want to ruin the story but would highly recommend this book and will look out for this author in the future. - Kay Bagridge
