Putting the Genie Back: Pathways from the Paris Agreement
Description:
In his third book in the Putting the Genie Back series, David Hone responds to the Paris Agreement which was concluded in 2015 after years of negotiation. When French Foreign Minister and COP21 President Laurent Fabius banged his gavel on the evening of Saturday December 12th 2015, he ushered in a truly global deal on climate change, embracing the spirit with this complex issue.
After 21 COPs and many inter-sessional meetings, it is safe to say that the Paris Agreement is a landmark achievement. But because of its brevity it still needs considerable deciphering and an understanding of the energy system in place today to put it into perspective. Will the Paris Agreement really see us through to the end of this century, bringing an end to anthropogenic emissions of greenhouse gases and stabilization of the resultant climate change problem? Or will continued development and energy demand growth eclipse the efforts now underway to manage emissions?
All proceeds from this book will be donated to the Center for Climate and Enegry Solutions (C2ES) and the 2041 Foundation, two NGOs that the author has worked with directly over many years.
