Description:
The special double 'Homage to Geoffrey Hill' issue of Agenda, Vol 50 Nos 1-2, honours this major poet who died on June 30, 2016. Agenda has always had a strong connection with Geoffrey Hill, and published for the first time many of his early poems. Two special issues on Hill were also brought out, his work, and essays on him peppering other issues of Agenda through the decades. Included here is a special section, 'Homage' , with poems, elegies, and prose pieces, reminiscences and memoirs by such well-known poets as Stephen Romer, David Harsent, Clive Wilmer, William Bedford, Peter Carpenter, Peter Dale, Andrew McNeillie and more. A moving obit by W S Milne heads the issue, and Keith Grant's portrait graces the cover. Grant has also written a piece on his friendship with Hill, and black and white images of other works of his separate the sections in this issue. A great variety of poems by established, little-known and new voices make up a refreshing anthology. Yves Bonnefoy, who died the day after Geoffrey, is also honoured with an obit as a major influential French poet and contemporary of Hill.
