Gilbert Briggs (1890-1978) founded the Wharfedale Wireless Works in 1932 to produce the famous Wharfedale loudspeakers that he personally designed for more than 20 years, earning the accolade 'the father of hi-fi'. Combining a biography of Briggs with the history of his company and products, this book from one of his relatives features brochures, advertisements and archive photographs illustrating the work of the factory and Briggs's audacious 'live versus recorded' concert demonstrations in venues such as the Royal Festival Hall.
