Through Dark Eyes
Description:
This is a novel in two parts. The first depicting the harsh life of the colonial farmers as they struggled to make a living between the wars, while the second part has their lives developing as new influences appear following WWII, with the advent of better communications, new technologies, and new ideas. At the heart of the story is Heinrich, of German descent in German East Africa, later to become Tanganyika (and later still Tanzania), who farms coffee on a plantation near Mount Kilimanjaro. The whole cast of characters (many of whom are obviously drawn from real life) are connected to him, be it from the nearby mission school, the airborne veterinary service or merely as neighbours.
