Royal Hospital Chelsea

This is the story of the Royal Hospital, one of the architectural wonders of London and home of the much-revered, scarlet-coated Chelsea Pensioners. For more than three hundred years veterans of the Army have found peace in retirement in the building that was commissioned specially for them by King Charles II. It was designed by Sir Christopher Wren, the most famous architect of his day; Robert Adam and Sir John Soane made later alterations and additions.
It is very much a 'living' place for more than 300 old soldiers. Exciting plans are being laid for a new fully up-to-date care home as well as improved individual sheltered accommodation: for this is a place with a future as well as a most intriguing past.
Through interviews with staff and, movingly, with some of the Pensioners, he describes what it means to belong to the Royal Hospital and to be housed in this magnificent building.
