Warriors and Priests: History of the Clan Maclean, 1300-1570
Description:
An account of the Clan Maclean that traces its history from its first arrival on the western seabord to subsequent landing on Mull. The text follows the Clan's rapid expansion under the patronage of the Lords of the Isles to Coll and Tiree, Ardgour, Lochaber, the Outer and Small Isles, Islay, Jura and up the Great Glen. It follows the Clan's subsequent history after the forfeiture of its patron and sees the Clan against the background of Anglo-Scottish politics, seapower and the church. This work is the first of three studies of the Clan which describes the story of the Macleans through their involvement in the power politics of Scotland and Ireland in the late 16th century, their role in the Civil War and the Jacobite uprisings and their ultimate dispersal in the late 18th and 19th centuries.
