Brendan Fernandes. Until We Fearless

The work of Brendan Fernandes pushes viewers to reconsider perceptions about the cultural identities associated with Africa and the African Diaspora. The main essay explores the artist's use of hybrid technologies to generate critical dialogue on stereotypical representations of African cultures as well as his analysis of the notion of authenticity. An interview with the Andy Warhol Museum's Eric C. Shiner examines Fernandes life experience and past art practices. Brendan Fernandes is nominated for the 2010 Sobey Award, Canada's preeminent prize for contemporary Canadian art. This publication documents his first solo museum exhibition.
