For the Love of Poetry: Literacy Scaffolds, Extension Ideas, and More

Poetry writing, says Nancy Lee Cecil, helps students build self-esteem and express themselves in their own way. In For the Love of Language, the author showed how literacy scaffolds can release the poet in every child. Now, in For the Love of Poetry, the author features 35 new literacy scaffolds. Each provides a description, an easy-to-follow pattern, lead-in activities, and two example poems written by students. Each scaffold also includes cross-curricular extension activities―including math, language arts, social studies, art, and music―based on the ideas students write in their poetry.
