The Mythic Mind: The History And Philosophy Of Psychology

A mind is a historical being. An Individual is not born in the world of things, persons and time as a finished product. The being is not prior to the history. The person becomes what they are through the history of relations of environment and relations of self. The individual is not therefore, simply a being in the world, but comes into being with the world. So too, any study of the mind must take into account the historical emergence of the discipline.
