Kansas City Street Scenes Featuring Kansas City Public Service PCC Cars
Description:
11x8.5 horizontal format, 64 pages, b/w and color images throughout. "PCC streetcars began roaming KC streets in 1941, and forever dramatically changed the local street scene. Before the arrival of the PCC cars, the average age of the trolley cars operated by KCPS was 32 years. PCC cars brought Kansas City out of the cowboy era and into the space age - the sleek new aerodynamic style of the PCC cars matched that of popular Detroit autos. Here are views of Kansas City Public Service streetcars of the 1940s and 50s. Detailed captions add historical data for the pix. 39 of the 64 pages are in color, and most of these are of the PCC cars operated by KCPS. There are 2 pages of the freight motors including a large full page color photo of freight motor 1; there are 4 color pages of KCPS work cars. Pictures of older cars show some of the color deterioration of early color photography. Roster of KSPS PCC cars from Philadelphia included."
