Charles E. Duryea: Automaker

Although not the first to produce a so-called automobile, Charles Edgar Duryea shares credit with his brother Frank for significant contribution to an American-made, gasoline powered vehicle, produced in Springfield, Massacusetts, in 1893. This book represents the first attempt at anything like an in-depth study of Charles Duryea. Herein is unfolded the story of a farm boy, mechanically minded, who went on to build "motor wagons" in five American cities at various times in his checkered career.
