Confederate Corporal A. P Adamson of the 30th Georgia Infantry fought in some of the major actions of the Civil War including Chickamauga and the siege of Vicksburg and, after his capture, endured imprisonment at Rock Island illinois and Point Lookout, Maryland. His diary and letters, carefully edited with commentary, reveal a keen insight into the military, political, and social scenes of a war-torn country.
