This book tells the story of the heroes of the liberation movements in the southern part of Africa. Asante takes aim at not only the dehumanizing legacy of the racist policy of aparheid, but also what he calls "internalized inferiority" on the part of many African leaders. Like our prophets of antiquity, Asante warns of the consequences of the delay in reclaiming the minds of African people, especially the minds of their leaders, an actualization he refers to as the ultimate liberation. This mind liberation, Asante posits passionately, can be rooted in Afrocentrism.
