Fire & Gold : The San Francisco Story

Fire and Gold is the first general history of San Francisco to be published in many years. It provides not only a much-needed comprehensive look at the City's past, but also provides an unusual synthesis of those historic elements which have created the current urban area known as San Francisco. Fracchia's text has been supplemented by more than two hundred photographs, chosen by Robert MacKimmie, photo curator of the California Historical Society. These photographs, many rarely seen before, illustrate San Francisco's development from two tiny settlements - a mission and a presidio - to today's bustling multi-cultural metropolis.
