A Seal upon My Heart

Sharon McCall is a devout evangelical Christian, the daughter of a right-wing fundamentalist minister - and a lesbian. At sixteen, she falls in love with her best friend, Genevieve Bauer, and they begin a secret romance which continues after high school. Sharon enrolls at the Cincinnati Bible College. It is not easy leading such a double life, but for Sharon, it's even harder being apart from her beloved. Then Sharon's secret is revealed. Not only does she face expulsion for the Bible college, but her rabidly homophobic father has been known to have young gays forcibly subjected to dubious "cures." She takes refuge at Oberlin with Gennie, where their friends rally behind them. The story reaches a courtroom confrontation where Sharon affirms her faith, her sexuality, and her right to be with the woman she loves.
