The Illustrated Voyageur

The Illustrated Voyageur is a colorful book of paintings and stories, depicting the adventures of canoeing through the northern wilderness in the late 1700s.
In birchbark canoes, the voyageurs paddled on long journeys of 1,000 miles or more, following winding chains of lakes and rivers through the spectacular, pristine beauty of the north.
Thirty-one paintings show the rugged canoemen of the North West Company - running rapids, portaging, weathering storms, camping and cooking in wild terrain - en route to their gala summer rendezvous on the shores of Lake Superior.
