Kokopelli: Ancient Myth, Modern Icon

Kokopelli is a symbolic personage created from a seemingly infinite number of cultural manifestations and meanings. However, was he a fertility or rain deity, or a deity at all? Where did he come from? Why is he one of the few recognizable figures to transcend cultures and geographic boundaries? What is the purpose of his modern day notoriety? This magical little hump-backed character is more than a t-shirt imagery. He is and was a character who transcends the epitome of ancient cultures. He makes us happy when we see him. Could it be that over a thousand years ago it was his duty and/or privilege to bring the same joy to an emerging group o cultures, in a time and place that by all appearances was devoid of many of life's more frivolous pleasures? He is often been called a trckster, the seducer of maidens a roving minstrel, a trader, a hunting deity. The true realm of the Kokopelli is steeped in hypothesis and speculation.
