Enlarged from presentations at a July 1998 international conference Basques in the Contemporary World: Migration, Identity, and Globalization, held in Reno, Nevada, 11 studies examine such aspects as the rationality of national passions, coverage of Basques in the New York Times from 1950 to 1996, redefining Euskade as an autonomous community and participant in the construction of Europe, and creating a new Basque diaspora.
