Contributors from a wide range of fields, most based in the US or the Basque Country, discuss theories of the origin of the language, its revival and popular culture, its viability in the next millennium, gender and identity in the Alardes parade of two Basque towns, punk rock and the repositioning of ethnicity and gender, traditional and new sports, Basque identity on the Internet, and other topics. Shorter versions of the 14 papers were delivered at the Basques in the Contemporary World: Migration, Identity, and Globalization conference in Reno, Nevada in July 1998. They are not indexed.
