The War in the Peninsula: The Spellmount Library of Military History
Description:
First published in 1913, this is a very rare and sought after Peninsular War memoir. The author served in the 7th (Royal) Fusiliers from 1811-1813, saw action in several battles and was wounded at the storming of Badajoz and at the Battle of Salamanca. He was killed at Roncesvalles in July 1813 during the Battle of the Pyrenees. The memoir benefits from extensive annotation by the author's great-great nephew, Sir Lees Knowles. Much information, not only on the fighting against the French but on the day-to-day life of one of Wellington's officers is included. There is also an introduction by Ian Fletcher, one of the leading authorities on the Napoleonic period.
