The Press as Public Educator

The unaccountability of the media as it relates to education is analyzed in this provocative text. Using the 1992 Rio Earth Summit as its primary example, this study examines how the media's responsibility to readers and shareholders can outweigh its liability as a public educator, with detrimental consequences. The argument presented here calls for a movement that would require the media to answer to its general public and recognize its inherent educational responsibilities.
