The Cultural Meaning of Deafness: Language, Identity and Power Relations

A work examining the ways in which deafness functions in the cultural, social and work context. A particular emphasis is placed upon early family life and the formation of deaf identity. At the same time, the isolation imposed by deafness is highlighted, and the construction of difference analyzed.
