The battle fought at Culloden beteen the armies of the Duke of Cumberland and Prince Charles Edward Stewart has passed into history not only as the bloody ruin of the Jacobite cause, but also as a symbol of the final confrontation of two cultures. It has inevitably become entangled in legend and distortion. This book - the result of years of research, in archives and on the actual battlefield - argues a new analysis of the nature and course of the battle. Here are accounts of the background to the "Forty-Five" rebellion, and of the earlier stages of the campaign.
